Description
This small natural organic food store has provided organic and/or natural products to this island community for over 35 years. Sells organic food, locally grown island produce, as well as bulk herbs, specialty tea and tea blends (many created by staff members), and exotic spices. Recently moved store into an historic Island Coffee Roasterie, where they hand roast traditionally farmed Heirloom.
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to save the world and a desire to savor it… which makes it hard to plan the day.”

Now you can do both…
The Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie and The Minglement--a neighborhood organic food store are housed in a charming 100-year-old building. This famous historic Roasterie and coffee museum is also home to specialty coffee and fair trade pioneer Jim Stewart’s original coffee company, The Wet Whisker, which eventually became known as Seattle’s Best Coffee. We are grateful for the mentorship of Jim Stewart, who is recognized as having one the best palates in the specialty coffee industry. He pointed us in the direction of some of the best coffee beans in the world--known for their outstanding flavor. We will do our best to bring you, as Jim Stewart and his staff did from the start...legendary coffee of exquisite flavor that you can feel good about buying.
Traditionally grown for generations, the beans we use are rare and come from the older variety plants, some of which grow nearly wild. All are shade grown at high altitudes in mineral rich volcanic soil, giving them their vibrantly deep and complex flavor. All our coffee is fresh roasted on site on the Roasterie’s original vintage roaster. This is the foundation of our gourmet Heirloom® Coffee.
We source beans through The Vashon Island Coffee Foundation. This non-profit organization was created by Jim Stewart to directly assist the families and communities who produce high quality coffee through traditional growing practices. We contribute a portion of our retail sales to organizations and individuals committed to the reclamation and restoration of indigenous cultures and the natural world.
